When To Send Your Emails

One of the most difficult questions you must answer when working on an email marketing campaign is when to actually send your emails. Poorly timed email campaigns will hinder success from the very beginning, no matter how much testing you do. Because of this, ensuring that emails are sent at the proper times is meaningful in planning your newsletter distribution strategy. If you don’t yet know how to start an email newsletter, read this Constant Contact review for more information.

Which Days Your Should Avoid

Since many of the people on your list will follow some sort of standard work week schedule, it’s important to work on your subscriber’s terms. I’m sure all of us experience the typical Monday blues from time to time. Monday is a day where people are busy planning their weeks and getting back up and running from the weekend. Because of this, Monday is a bad time to schedule your email blast, as nobody really has the time, or wants to take the time, to read a sales email on this day. If you are currently sending emails on this day, check your email tracking statistics and then test the times below to see the difference.

Similarly, I know we all experience the excitement of Friday. These days are often filled with completing work and procrastination. Do you think it would be a good idea, then, to send out your newsletter on this day? Absolutely not, unless you don’t want people to read your emails. Statistically, this is one of the worst days possible to send an email blast for this very reason.

What Times You Should Send An Email Blast

Now let’s learn the best days to email your customers. Obviously, you want to email subscribers when they’re ready to actually read and possibly respond to your emails. In order to get them while they’re in a good mindset, the best days to message your subscribers are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Since these days are mid-week, your subscribers won’t be checked out and also won’t be trying to get back into gear after a long weekend. This puts them in the perfect state of mind to want to read, and hopefully convert on your newsletter.

Should You Send On Weekends?

Generally, emailing subscribers on weekends is a terrible choice. Most people are busy running errands or relaxing, and are thus not motivated to read and respond to your email. In fact, many people might not check their messages on weekends, making it so that they will receive your email on a Monday, one of the worst days to send.

With this being said, however, you should test whether a Sunday email blast raises conversion rate. With some lists, people are more apt to check their emails (personal, not work) on Sundays since they are relaxing and getting ready for the week. Try testing open rates and conversion rates with emails sent on Sunday versus Tuesday. You should be able to test this pretty easily, and you will then know for sure the best possible day to send an email to your list.

In conclusion, if you want to make sure that your subscribers actually read and respond to your newsletter, send it to them on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and test Sunday to see if that day works for you as well.
